This week's hot-button issues are immigration reform and gun control. Last week's Top of the Charts was Same-Sex Marriage, but since there will be a delay of several month before we get the Supreme Court's decisions, the attention-challenged media has quickly shifted its focus. To be sure, the resolution of all or any of these will have significant impact on life in these United States, but I continue to be baffled about why the economy and unemployment are not the primary concern of our politicians and media.
I have not commented here about foreign policy issues, since my particular interest is the governance of our society and related matters such as the economy. Still, it is difficult to not to ask "What the f**k is going on with North Korea?"
Last week's post, "Shoot the Hostage", drew some comment via email about morality and the law. There is a philosophical difference between what might be considered immoral and and what might be considered illegal: Driving over the speed limit is illegal and not immoral; slavery is immoral, but it was at one time not illegal in our socieity. This is an topic that I will explore in the future.
The baseball season opens today in New York with both the Yankees and Mets playing home games.
